§ Stone Types & Materials Guide

Not all stone glows the same.

Spanish Alabaster.

The world's most prized alabaster — and our most-loved stone.

Alabaster is a fine-grained form of gypsum or calcite, formed over millions of years in sedimentary deposits. Spain's Zaragoza region produces the world's finest — known for its exceptional translucency, warm creamy tone, and the characteristic soft veining that runs through every block.

What makes alabaster unique in lighting is what happens when a bulb is placed behind it. The stone becomes a lantern. Light passes through the mineral structure and is diffused into a warm amber-cream glow that no glass or fabric shade can replicate.

Because no two quarry blocks share the same mineral composition, no two Radilum alabaster lamps are identical. The veining on your lamp will be yours alone.

§ 02 · Turkey · Denizli
Direct Import · Pore Structure

Turkish Travertine.

Formed by hot springs over thousands of years — organic, warm, full of character.

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral-rich spring water. Turkey's Denizli region produces the world's most sought-after travertine, prized for its distinctive natural pore structure, warm cream-to-ochre banding, and organic surface texture.

In lighting, travertine's pores are its signature. The natural voids in the stone allow pinpoints of light to pass through alongside the broader diffused glow — creating a surface that appears almost alive when lit.

Travertine suits organic-modern and wabi-sabi interiors particularly well. Its earthy warmth pairs naturally with linen, raw wood, unglazed ceramic, and natural fibre.

§ 03 · Italy · Carrara & Brescia
Premium Selection · Sculptural Surface

Italian Marble.

The stone of palaces and museums — now carved into lighting.

Italy's Carrara and Brescia quarries produce the world's most iconic marble varieties: Carrara white with its cool grey veining, and Brescia red with its deep burgundy-rose coloration. Each block carries a geological signature unique to its quarry face.

Unlike alabaster, marble is largely opaque — it works as a sculptural object that carries light on its surface rather than through it. The polished surface catches ambient light and the veining creates natural depth.

§ 04 · China · Henan Province
Rare Material · 7,000-Year Heritage

Chinese Jade.

A material no other lighting brand currently offers — collector-level rarity.

True nephrite jade is one of the most culturally significant stones in the world — prized in China for over 7,000 years. Henan Province remains one of the few remaining sources of gem-quality nephrite jade suitable for lighting fabrication. Our allocation is strictly limited by annual quarry output.

Jade's optical properties make it extraordinary in lighting. The stone is semi-translucent — denser than alabaster but with a characteristic internal depth that produces a deep green-amber luminance when lit. A Radilum jade lamp is a genuine collector's object.

Annual Allocation

Quarry output is finite and weather-dependent. We accept new jade orders only during open-allocation windows; lead time is typically 8–14 weeks from confirmation. Inquire to check current availability.

Persian Onyx.

Dramatic translucent banding — honey, sage green, and ivory in a single slab.

Persian onyx from Isfahan is a banded calcite characterised by semi-translucent layers of honey amber, sage green, and ivory white. When lit, the translucent bands glow while the denser mineral inclusions remain in shadow — creating a naturally layered light effect unique to each slab.

Selenite & Custom Stone.

For clients with a specific vision — any stone, sourced anywhere.

Selenite — a crystalline form of gypsum — is fibrous and directional: light passing through it produces a silk-like sheen that shifts as you move around the lamp. White, peach, and desert rose varieties available on request.

Beyond our stocked varieties, we work with architects and interior designers to source custom stone specifications — agate slices, labradorite, sandstone, limestone, and more. If you have seen it in a slab yard, we can almost certainly carve a lamp from it.
