Wooden Dowel Chandelier · Metal Body · White / Black · 6 / 12 / 18 Heads · E12 / E14

Installation Video
Demonstration Video

The Swinton is a round chandelier built around a metal arm structure wrapped in multiple tiers of wooden dowels. Six curved arms radiate from the central hub; around them, the dowels — cut from whitewash-finished wood — are arranged in concentric horizontal layers, the finished silhouette reading as a dense, spherical mass of warm natural material. When lit, the candelabra sources glow through the dowel layers, the stacked wood casting complex layered shadows into the space above and below.

Seven size configurations scale from a compact 6-head at ∅ 53 cm to a grand 18-head at ∅ 150 cm. The larger versions — up to 35 kg — require structural ceiling support confirmed before installation. Two finish options: White (whitewash wood, light and organic) and Black (dark-stained wood, more dramatic and architectural). The hanging chain is 30 cm on all configurations.

White

Whitewash-finished wooden dowels — light, warm, and organic. The pale wood tones read as Scandi-natural or coastal. Suits light-neutral, contemporary, and relaxed interiors.

Black

Dark-stained wooden dowels — more dramatic and graphic. The dark mass reads as bold and architectural. Suits contemporary, industrial, and dark-palette interiors.

⚠ Weight warning for large configurations (19 kg+).

19–25 kg versions: Confirm your ceiling junction box is rated for the fixture weight before ordering. Standard J-boxes are typically rated for 23–35 kg; verify with your electrician.

30–35 kg versions (∅ 120–150 cm): These configurations require a structural ceiling support rated for 35 kg+ — a standard junction box is not sufficient. A licensed electrician must install a fan-rated or structural ceiling brace before installation. Do not attempt to hang these versions without confirmed structural support.

Bulbs are not included. Each arm uses one E12 (US) or E14 (international) candelabra socket. Recommended: 2–4W LED E12/E14 flame-tip candelabra bulb at 2700K warm white. The warm amber tone complements both the White and Black wood finishes — the dowel layers diffuse and scatter the light, so individual bulb brightness matters less than color temperature.

How do I choose the right size? +

Match the diameter to your table or room width: the chandelier diameter should typically be 50–75% of the table width directly below it. For a standard 180 cm dining table, a ∅ 90–120 cm version is appropriate. For open-plan living areas and grand foyers, the ∅ 120–150 cm versions read as fully architectural installations. The head count affects the total light output as much as the size — the 18-head versions at the same diameter as a 12-head will be noticeably brighter. Check ceiling height: the taller configurations (H 100–125 cm) plus 30 cm chain requires a minimum 2.8–3 m ceiling for safe bottom clearance.

White or Black — which finish suits my space? +

White (whitewash) reads as warm and organic — the pale wood tones have a natural, undyed quality that suits Scandi-minimalist, coastal, and light-neutral interiors. The fixture reads as a cloud of natural material overhead. Black (dark-stained) reads as bolder and more dramatic — the dark mass of dowels creates a strong visual statement and suits contemporary, industrial, and dark-palette interiors where a commanding overhead form is the intention.

Do the 30 kg+ versions require special installation? +

Yes. The ∅ 120 cm (30 kg) and ∅ 150 cm (35 kg) configurations exceed the safe load capacity of a standard ceiling junction box. Before ordering either of these versions, have a licensed electrician assess your ceiling and install a fan-rated ceiling brace or structural mounting bar rated for 35 kg or more. In concrete ceilings, a direct anchor to the structural slab is required. Do not proceed with installation until structural support is confirmed. The 19 kg and 25 kg versions should also have their junction box load capacity verified before installation.

Is it dimmable? +

Yes, when fitted with dimmable E12/E14 LED candelabra bulbs and a compatible TRIAC wall dimmer switch (both sold separately). Specify “dimmable” when purchasing bulbs and confirm your dimmer is rated for the total LED wattage of all arms (multiply the single-bulb wattage by the head count). For 18-head versions, ensure the dimmer is rated for the combined load. Dimming the Swinton to 30–50% produces the most atmospheric result — at lower brightness, the warm light source glows through the dowel layers as a soft, diffused halo rather than a bright point-source cluster.

Multi-Stick Chandelier
Solid Wood · Sculptural Lighting

Architecture in
natural wood.

A chandelier built from individually finished wooden rods — configurable in scale and light count for rooms of every proportion, in black or white.

A Distinctive Form Light catches each wooden rod at a different angle — turning one fixture into a slow, shifting composition overhead.

Dozens of slender wooden rods radiate from a central frame, each cut and hand-finished before assembly. The piece reads with real three-dimensional depth — different from every angle, and as the light changes — making it a popular choice for interiors that favour natural material over surface gloss.

Why It Stands Out

Three things to know.

Genuine wood detail
01 · Genuine Wood

Real material

Solid timber rods, hand-finished — each fixture holds its own grain and tone. No two are alike.

Sculptural form
02 · Distinctive Form

A silhouette that holds the room

Radiating rods create genuine volume — a statement centrepiece with an architectural, natural edge.

Warm glow
03 · Layered Glow

Warm, diffused light

Light sources spread through the structure cast a soft glow with gentle shadow play between the rods.

Natural Wood Character Is Not a Defect

The rods are genuine wood, so each fixture carries its own grain, tonal variation, and occasionally fine surface cracks. These are natural characteristics of solid timber, not quality issues — they add to the individuality of the piece. Grain and minor markings will differ slightly from the product photographs.

Installation

Guided every step.

  • 01Switch off power at the breaker.
  • 02Fit the bracket to the ceiling box per the diagram.
  • 03Connect & set height — wire and adjust the drop.
  • 04Mount the canopy, restore power, and test.

A video and printed dimension drawing are included. Hardwired — installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

Questions

Good to know.

Which size should I choose?
Match the fixture to the room: smaller configurations suit entries and bedrooms, medium sizes work over dining tables and in living rooms, and large or grand sizes are made for stairwells, foyers, and double-height spaces. Check diameter and light count against your ceiling height.
My fixture has slight cracks or uneven grain — is something wrong?
No. Grain variation, tonal differences, and fine surface cracks are natural characteristics of solid wood, not defects, and will differ between fixtures and from the product photos.
Can the hanging height be adjusted?
Yes — the chandelier ships with adjustable suspension, so the drop height is set during installation, from standard ceilings to taller stairwells.
Is installation difficult?
An installation video and printed dimension drawing are included. The fixture is hardwired, so installation by a qualified electrician is recommended. Always switch off power at the breaker first.

Measuring for Pendant Lighting

When installing pendants and chandeliers, it’s important to consider how you want your fixtures to hang in relation to the other furnishings in your space. Read on for our recommendations on how to hang the perfect light.

Kitchen

Aim for 30–36″ from the bottom of your fixture’s shade to the top of your island or countertop. Space multiple pendants 26–30″ apart. For a sense of proportion and balance, allow 12″ from the outermost fixture to the edge of your counter.

Dining Room

For optimal lighting and visibility, the bottom of your pendant should sit 30″ from the surface of your dining table. To scale your fixture, take the length and width of the room in feet, then convert that to inches. For a 10′ by 14′ room, the chandelier should be about 24″ wide.

Bedroom

If you’re hanging a pendant above a nightstand, allow for at least 30″ between the bottom of the shade and your nightstand’s surface. To keep the look balanced, center your pendant over your nightstand.
