Artisanal Plaster Pendant · Papier-Mâché & Venetian Plaster · Black or Gold Chain · E26 / E27
Each pendant begins as a papier-mâché form — sheets of paper layered and air-dried over a mold until the shell is rigid enough to hold its shape independently. The exterior is then finished with Venetian plaster and gesso: the plaster is applied and burnished in multiple passes to build a smooth, slightly reflective surface, while the gesso seals and whitens to a matte chalk finish. The result is a body that has genuine material depth — not a painted surface but a built-up skin of plaster with the subtle tonal variation of a handmade object.
The chain — available in black or gold — is the only visible hardware. Black chain reads as a deliberate graphic line descending from the ceiling into the white form; gold chain warms the composition and references the material history of plastered interiors. The lamp body itself is the same white plaster on both versions.
Chain — Choose at Checkout
The lamp body is white plaster on both versions. Choose your hanging chain finish below.
Black Chain
Matte black metal chain — reads as a sharp graphic line against the white plaster. Suits minimalist, contemporary, and Japandi interiors where the contrast is intentional.
Gold Chain
Warm gold metal chain — softens the composition and references the tradition of gilt and plaster in classical interiors. Suits warm-neutral, French, and Mediterranean palettes.
Dimensions
Each piece is handmade and unique. The papier-mâché and Venetian plaster process is carried out by hand — surface texture, tonal variation, and the subtle irregularities of the plaster finish will differ slightly from piece to piece and from the photographs. This is intrinsic to the hand-built process and is not a defect.
Bulbs are not included. This fixture uses a standard E26 (US) or E27 (international) socket. A 6–10W LED at 2700K warm white with a frosted or opal glass diffuser is recommended — the soft, even output complements the matte plaster surface without creating visible hotspots on the interior.

FAQ
What is Venetian plaster and why does it matter here? +
Venetian plaster is a lime-based plaster finish applied in thin layers and burnished between coats — a technique originating in Italian fresco and palazzo interiors. Unlike paint or a single-coat skim plaster, it builds up subtle tonal depth: the surface is slightly translucent in places, with the underlayers visible through the top coat. On this pendant, Venetian plaster is applied over the papier-mâché shell and sealed with gesso — the result is a matte white surface with genuine material character, not a uniform painted finish.
Black chain or Gold chain — which suits my space? +
Black chain creates a deliberate tonal contrast — the dark line descending from the ceiling into the white form is graphic and intentional. Best for minimalist, Japandi, and contemporary interiors where white and black is a considered pairing. Gold chain warms the overall composition — the metal references the tradition of gilt and plaster surfaces in classical European interiors. Better suited to warm-neutral, French Provincial, and Mediterranean palettes where black would feel too sharp.
Is the plaster fragile? +
The papier-mâché core gives the lamp body structural rigidity — it is not as brittle as a solid ceramic or solid plaster form. Normal handling and vibration will not damage it. That said, a sharp direct impact (dropping or knocking against a hard edge) can chip or crack the plaster surface. Install with care and avoid placing it in locations where it may be struck. If minor surface chips occur over time, touch-up with standard white gesso from an art supply store is possible.
What bulb gives the best result? +
A 6–10W LED at 2700K warm white with a frosted or opal glass diffuser in E26 (US) or E27 (international). The frosted glass spreads the output evenly, avoiding a visible hot spot on the plaster interior — which a bare clear-glass bulb would create. Warm white (2700K) complements the chalk-white plaster surface without making it appear cold or clinical. Bulbs are not included.

Measuring for Pendant Lighting
When installing pendants and chandeliers, it’s important to consider how you want your fixtures to hang in relation to the other furnishings in your space. Read on for our recommendations on how to hang the perfect light.
Kitchen
Aim for 30–36″ from the bottom of your fixture’s shade to the top of your island or countertop. Space multiple pendants 26–30″ apart. For a sense of proportion and balance, allow 12″ from the outermost fixture to the edge of your counter.
Dining Room
For optimal lighting and visibility, the bottom of your pendant should sit 30″ from the surface of your dining table. To scale your fixture, take the length and width of the room in feet, then convert that to inches. For a 10′ by 14′ room, the chandelier should be about 24″ wide.
Bedroom
If you’re hanging a pendant above a nightstand, allow for at least 30″ between the bottom of the shade and your nightstand’s surface. To keep the look balanced, center your pendant over your nightstand.
