Measuring for Pendant Lighting

When installing pendants and chandeliers, it’s important to consider how you want your fixtures to hang in relation to the other furnishings in your space. Read on for our recommendations on how to hang the perfect light.

Kitchen

Aim for 30–36″ from the bottom of your fixture’s shade to the top of your island or countertop. Space multiple pendants 26–30″ apart. For a sense of proportion and balance, allow 12″ from the outermost fixture to the edge of your counter.

Dining Room

For optimal lighting and visibility, the bottom of your pendant should sit 30″ from the surface of your dining table. To scale your fixture, take the length and width of the room in feet, then convert that to inches. For a 10′ by 14′ room, the chandelier should be about 24″ wide.

Bedroom

If you’re hanging a pendant above a nightstand, allow for at least 30″ between the bottom of the shade and your nightstand’s surface. To keep the look balanced, center your pendant over your nightstand.

The shape is what I like most about this chandelier. It has a nice open feel once it’s hanging. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Thank you so much for your interest in our stunning Armature Chandelier! The hanging height of this chandelier is fully adjustable and customizable. To give you a clear idea, I’ve run a quick calculation based on professional design guidelines: for optimal lighting and visual impact, the bottom of the chandelier should hang approximately 30 inches above the dining table surface. With a ceiling height of 15 feet (180 inches), the total drop length from the ceiling to the bottom of the fixture needs to be 120 inches. Since the 8-light model itself is 25.6 inches tall, you would require a suspension rod length of approximately 94.4 inches (about 240 cm). Our standard package includes two connectable rods (11.8 inches and 19.7 inches, totaling 31.5 inches), which falls far short of what is needed for your magnificent 15-foot high ceiling. However, rest assured—we offer custom rod extensions to ensure a perfect fit for your dining room. Please contact our customer service team via email to specify whether you want the 4-light or 8-light version, as well as your preferred total hanging height and color, and we will arrange the custom extension rods for you.
