Cast Brass · Naturalist Sculpture Tradition · Tabletop Scale
A cast-brass eagle sculpture in the 19th-century French animalier tradition — wings outspread mid-flight, talons grasping a brass-cast branch base, head turned in a hunting profile. The casting carries hand-chased feather detail across the wings, breast, and tail, with the rougher branch base serving as visual counterweight to the polished body of the bird.
Sand-cast in solid brass and hand-finished — every feather edge is worked by hand, so detail and patina vary piece to piece. Suited to library shelves and built-ins, mantelpieces, console tables, executive desks and home-office credenzas, members-club libraries, and collector display cases in 5,000+ sq ft estates and luxury hotel suites — for design-led clients drawn to the Beaux-Arts animalier and naturalist sculpture tradition.
Why This Object
Solid Cast Brass
Sand-cast in solid brass — not plated, not hollow resin. The weight and chased feather detail are characteristic of period animalier bronze work.
Beaux-Arts Animalier Tradition
Drawn from the 19th-century French animalier sculpture tradition — Barye and Mêne-era naturalist wildlife casting, scaled for the contemporary American library.
Hand-Chased Detail
Feather edges, talons, and branch texture worked by hand after casting. Polished body contrasts with the rougher branch base as the period convention.
Finish
Polished & Hand-Aged Brass
Polished brass body with hand-aged darker passages in the recesses — the period-correct two-tone finish of 19th-century animalier work. Single standard finish.
Cast and hand-chased — every piece is unique. Feather detail, patina depth, and surface tone vary fixture to fixture; your sculpture will not match the photos at the detail level.

Placement & Display
- Place on a stable, level surface. The wingspan extends beyond the branch base — allow at least 32″ of clear shelf or mantel width for visual breathing room.
- Confirm shelf or mantel load. 8–12 kg is well within mantel capacity but at the upper end for thin floating shelves — confirm bracket rating before placement.
- Two-hand handling. Lift only from the body and base together, never from the outstretched wings — solid brass at this scale is rigid but the wing tips are the most exposed casting points.
- Pair with low-profile accessories. The piece reads best as the visual focal point of its shelf or mantel — surround with books or low objects rather than competing tall sculptures.
- Care: dust with a soft dry cloth only; for fingerprints use a microfiber cloth dampened with distilled water. Do not use brass polish or abrasive cleaners — these strip the hand-aged patina.
Frequently Asked
Where does it look best — shelf, mantel, or console? +
The 28.7″ wingspan needs at least 32″ of clear width to read correctly with breathing room. Library shelves and built-ins with a 36″+ shelf width work well; standard fireplace mantels (typically 48–72″ wide) suit the piece as a centered focal point. Console tables of 48″+ work — the eagle becomes the anchor of an entry-foyer vignette. It is too large for desk-side placement on most home-office desks; choose a credenza or library shelf instead.
Is it solid brass or plated? +
Solid sand-cast brass — not plated, not hollow resin. Weight is approximately 8–12 kg (18–26 lbs) for a piece of this scale, which is consistent with solid-brass casting. The branch base is integral to the casting; the body is not separable. Hand-chased feather detail is worked into the casting after pour, in the manner of 19th-century French animalier bronze work.
How do I clean and care for the brass? +
Dust regularly with a soft dry microfiber cloth. For fingerprints or smudges, use a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with distilled water and dry immediately. Do not use brass polish (Brasso and similar), ammonia, vinegar, or abrasive cloths — these strip the hand-aged darker recesses and flatten the two-tone period finish. Light surface tarnish is normal over years and is part of the patina; do not attempt to remove it.
Will my piece match the photographs? +
Closely, but not identically. The casting is made to consistent specification — form, scale, and pose are reliable. Feather detail at the chase level and the depth of the hand-aged recesses vary subtly piece to piece, since each is finished by hand. The eagle you receive will sit within the same visual language as the photographs but will be visibly distinct under close inspection — the character of hand-chased animalier work.
Can I get a different finish or scale? +
Yes — alternative finishes (antique brass, dark patinated bronze, silver-plated brass) and alternative scales (smaller desk version, larger pedestal version) are quotable as custom builds for project-specific specification. Please contact us before ordering with your requirements and we will return a custom quote and lead time.
Suitable for hospitality, members-club, and collector projects? +
Yes — hospitality and collector grade. Solid cast-brass construction and the period animalier tradition suit luxury hotel suite vignettes and presidential suites, members-club libraries and reception halls, executive offices, and high-end residential libraries and studies.
