Hand-Forged Iron · Hand-Cut Tole Foliage · Studio Original · Estate-Grade
A botanical sculptural chandelier in the language of 18th-century French gilt-tole tradition — an upright trunk of hand-forged iron rises from the canopy plate, wrapped in cascading oak foliage, and opens at its base into eight candle arms encircled by a dense crown of hand-cut leaves. Each leaf is shaped, veined, and finished by hand, then arranged so the canopy reads as a small living tree suspended in air rather than a fixture pretending to be one.
The mottled brown-green patina is a controlled hand-aged finish drawn from the tonal range of oak foliage in early autumn — warm umber on the upper leaves, cooler bronze-green in the recessed clusters, with darker oxide passages on the iron stem. Suited to double-height great rooms, two-storey foyers, large dining rooms in 5,000+ sq ft estates, luxury hotel lobbies, and historic-restoration projects — particularly for design-savvy clients drawn to the botanical sculptural ironwork aesthetic of European tole lighting.
Why This Fixture
Radilum Studio Original
Designed and made in our studio, not adapted from a third-party reference. A botanical sculptural chandelier developed in the tradition of 18th-century French tole and Italian mid-century naturalist ironwork.
Estate-Grade Sculptural Scale
122 cm wide × 122 cm tall (48″ × 48″) plus a 100 cm hanging chain — built to read at full presence in double-height great rooms and two-storey foyers, not compressed into a standard dining ceiling.
Hand-Forged, Hand-Finished
Iron stem and arms are forged and welded by hand. Every oak leaf is individually cut, veined, and aged in the mottled brown-green patina before the canopy is composed. No two fixtures are identical.
Finish
Mottled Brown-Green · Hand-Aged Iron
A controlled multi-tone patina — umber and aged bronze across the leaves, deeper oxide passages on the trunk and arms. Reads as autumnal foliage at distance and as worked iron up close. Single finish, hand-applied; tonal variation between fixtures is expected and is part of the character of the piece.
Hand-finished tole foliage. Each oak leaf is cut from sheet metal, hand-veined, and aged individually before being assembled onto the iron stem and arms. Leaf count, leaf placement, and patina depth vary slightly fixture to fixture — the piece you receive will not look identical to the photographs. This is the character of hand-finished botanical ironwork, not a flaw. Default light source is non-dimmable candle bulbs purchased separately. TRIAC-dimmable wiring is available on request — please contact us before ordering. Custom builds may affect lead time.
Reinforced ceiling support recommended. Sculptural iron chandeliers of this scale and density of foliage typically weigh 30–50 kg (65–110 lbs) assembled. For ceiling junction boxes rated below this, your electrician should install a heavy-duty fixture brace or anchor to a structural joist before mounting. Please contact us before ordering for confirmed weight and freight logistics.

Installation
- Hardwired ceiling installation — licensed electrician required. The fixture connects to a standard ceiling junction box via the supplied canopy plate and chain. On-site installation is arranged by you; we provide installation guidance documentation with the shipment.
- Specialist installation strongly recommended. Engage a chandelier installer or licensed electrician familiar with multi-arm fixtures; the foliage clusters are densely composed and individual leaves can be displaced during un-crating if handled without care.
- Confirm ceiling support before order. Standard residential junction boxes are rated for fixtures up to roughly 25 kg / 55 lbs. For this fixture your electrician should anchor to a structural joist or install a heavy-duty fixture brace. If your installation site has limited access (cathedral ceiling, scaffold-required height), please tell us before ordering so we can plan crating and freight accordingly.
- Adjust chain on site. The supplied 100 cm chain can be shortened by your electrician to suit the ceiling height — for double-height rooms the full chain typically reads correctly; in standard 9–10 ft ceilings shorten by half or more.
- Bulbs supplied by installer. The fixture takes 8 × E12 or E14 candle bulbs (not included). For best visual integration with the foliage tone, choose clear or warm-tinted candle envelopes at 2700–3000K.
- Freight delivery is required. Please confirm your delivery address has appropriate access for a crated freight shipment and that someone is on site to receive and inspect the crate.
Frequently Asked
How heavy is the chandelier and what ceiling support do I need? +
Sculptural iron chandeliers of this scale and foliage density typically weigh 30–50 kg (65–110 lbs) assembled. Standard US residential ceiling junction boxes are rated for roughly 25 kg / 55 lbs, so your electrician should install a heavy-duty fixture brace or anchor directly to a structural joist before mounting. We can confirm the exact weight for your specific unit before shipping — please contact us before ordering if your installation site needs the figure for engineering review.
Will my fixture look exactly like the photographs? +
No — and that is the point. Every oak leaf is hand-cut, hand-veined, and individually aged in the brown-green patina before assembly, and the canopy is then composed by hand. Leaf count, exact leaf placement, density at the trunk, and tonal balance vary fixture to fixture. The photographs show one representative unit; yours will sit within the same visual language but will not be identical. This is the character of hand-finished tole work, not a flaw.
What bulbs does it take? +
Eight E12 (US candelabra) or E14 (European candelabra) candle bulbs, supplied by your installer. We recommend candle-envelope LED bulbs at 2700–3000K, ≤ 25W incandescent-equivalent, with a clear or warm-tinted glass envelope so the bulb visually integrates with the foliage tone. Frosted or cool-white bulbs flatten the sculptural reading of the canopy and are not recommended.
Is it dimmable? +
The standard wiring is non-dimming. TRIAC-dimmable wiring is available as a custom build — please contact us before ordering and specify your preferred dimming protocol so we ship the right variant. Whether the fixture actually dims also depends on the candle bulbs you install: confirm your chosen bulbs are dimmable LEDs or incandescents. For an explanation of the difference between TRIAC and 0–10V dimming and which one suits your installation, see our technical guide on dimming protocols. Custom builds may extend lead time.
What ceiling height does it need? +
The fixture itself is 122 cm / 48″ tall, plus the supplied 100 cm / 39.4″ chain — a total drop of around 222 cm / 87″ at full chain length. For a two-storey foyer or double-height great room (16–24 ft ceilings) the full chain typically reads correctly with the lower ring landing well above head height. For standard 9–10 ft ceilings, the chain should be shortened by your electrician to give 7–8 ft of clearance under the lower ring; the chandelier still reads well in those rooms but the upper foliage tower is its strongest visual feature, so taller ceilings are preferred where possible.
Can I order it in a different finish, size, or chain length? +
Yes — the brown-green patina is the standard finish, but custom patina depth (lighter spring-green, darker autumn-bronze, or a more uniform aged-iron) and custom chain lengths are available on request. Bespoke dimensions for double-grand or smaller foyer-scale versions can be quoted as custom builds. Please contact us before ordering with your project specifications and we will return a custom quote and lead time.
Is this a Radilum original design? +
Yes. The Spring Oak Tree Chandelier is a Radilum studio original — designed and made in our studio in the tradition of 18th-century French gilt-tole and Italian mid-century naturalist ironwork, not adapted from a third-party reference product. The botanical sculptural composition, leaf shaping, patina, and proportional system are our own.
Is it suitable for hospitality and commercial projects? +
Yes — this is a hospitality-grade fixture. The hand-forged iron construction, estate-scale proportions, and durable hand-aged patina make it well-suited to luxury hotel lobbies and suites, restaurant private dining rooms, members-club libraries, garden conservatories, and high-end residential projects. For project-quantity orders we coordinate matched patina tone within batches, chain-length specification, and lead times directly. Please contact us with your project specification at the earliest stage.
